Happy Father's Day!
Happy Father's Day! It is so nice to be here with my dad and with my kids' dad! We have had another wonderful day so far... We rode into town on our bikes and found where the "church" meets. There were 10 adults there total, 4 of whom were stake visitors who were helping to organize this little group that only meets in the summer. Apparently there are only 2 members of the church that actually live on the island, but during the summer, the numbers swell to about 10-20 due to summer workers and LDS nannies that travel here with rich families. So anyway, we met upstairs in this dentist's house. We all kind of sat in a circle and had the sacrament and then listened to 2 talks. The guy who gave the second talk didn't even stand up - it was that casual! Anyway, it was actually very nice...reminded me a lot of my mission in Spain when we would be in areas where the numbers were very small. Just gets back to basics. But also makes me grateful for the big ward in which we live, where there are so many people!
When we got home, Twi wanted to take the girls to the children's beach. So we loaded up the car and went over there. It was so peaceful and relaxing...the girls just dug in the sand and collected seashells for awhile. We're back home now and everyone is kind of just relaxing, reading, hanging out, some are swimming. Gary is grilling hamburgers for Father's Day. He does everything gourmet, even hamburgers. He made this dill potato salad that will be delicious.
I just want to spend a minute to talk about my dad, since it's Father's Day! I love him so much. He is the smartest, most honorable man I know. Some people in our family tease him a little because he just says things like he sees them and is not one to sugarcoat things, or make pleasantries or do something he doesn't like or doesn't want to do just because it's expected. But he is truly kind, and would give anyone the shirt off his back if they needed it. He has provided so many opportunities for me throughout my life, and now he does the same thing for my husband and my kids too. And beyond all of the material things that he has given me over the years, the most precious gift is of his time. I can't recall one instance growing up ever when I asked him to play a game with me and he turned me down. We see him almost every single weekend and he always reserves a night for us and spends the evening with us. My girls adore him. I am just so thankful to have him for my dad!!
